[Lurk]:
I can't do it! What if they judge me? Will I ever be good enough?
Thoughts can get negative at times, and somehow, people find it easier to see the negative things about themselves, rather than the positive. Sometimes the thoughts feel like a big dark shadow chasing you. You start overthinking things and eventually, it becomes a negative circle of thoughts inside of your head.
The piece [Lurk]: highlights the difficulties of living in today's modern world. This project engages in the creation of a piece, which emphasizes the need for more awareness on mental health and negative thoughts portrayed in the idea of shadows.
The topic of the piece is the inner fight between yourself
and your negative thoughts, reflected in the idea of shadows. The piece is based
on the feelings one experiences, through the process of overthinking, and the
development into a mental fight against yourself and your thoughts.
The dancers in my piece all represent themselves as human beings, but also represent each others negative thoughts, as destroying thoughts and overthinking usually comes from our society and outer factors in general. Everything around us affect us and our thoughts, and we all try to be perfect and live up to all the expectations our society has created throughout the years.
The piece is created by three stages, which the dancers goes through during the piece to show the development of the thoughts and the negative thinking.
They are called; The Issue, The Fight and The Accept.
The Issue, is where we get
presented to the problem and the overthinking starts slowly its development.
The
Fight, is where the thoughts has developed to its absolute worst, where the narrators
(the dancers) tries to push away the thoughts, even though they feel endless.
The accept,
is where the narrators tries to accept that there will be days like this, where it feels
endless and overwhelming, but that there also will be an end to the thoughts and hopefully a light at the
end of the tunnel.
